A Crash Course in 3 Summer Lipstick Techniques
TutorialsThere’s no time like summer for glowy skin and fresh, fuss-free makeup and looks that last. When it comes to lips, we turned to Anete Salinieka, our most recent Artist in Residence, to show us three distinct lipstick looks — a soft rose lip, a two-toned coral pout and a bronzed, monochromatic moment — using Rose Inc’s Satin Lip Color in different shades.
Below, the London-based artist showcases the versatility of the creamy, moisture-rich lipstick by breaking down the no-fuss techniques she uses to create each of these vacation-worthy pouts, from blotting and contouring to perfecting an ultra-flattering monochromatic look.
Look 1: The Blotted Lip
Matte and budge-proof, this technique also balances out a more intense eye look and stays on when eating. Salinieka applied three layers of Satin Lip Color to her lips, in Besotted, a beige-pink shade. “Blot it down with a tissue in between the layers to create a more matte effect,” she explains. Soft edges are also key to this natural look — no need for precision.

Look 2: The Contoured Lip
By strategically applying cool- and warm-toned lipsticks next to each other, Salinieka creates an illusion that’s easy to mimic. “I often like to apply two different colors as I feel that this technique adds more depth and dimension that can visually make the lips appear fuller,” she says. “I lined my lips with the shade Demure and added a touch of Poetic in the center of my lips. “The contrast between the cool blush-toned Demure and the muted coral Poetic shades did this trick. Not only because the shades are different in color, but one is cooler and the other one is warmer which adds an extra contrast between the two shades.”

Look 3: The Monochromatic Lip
Matching one’s eyes, cheeks and lips creates a coordinated effect that’s both polished and flattering. Salinieka created a monochromatic bronzed look by opting for the beige-based Satin Lip shade, Hypnotic, paired with plenty of our Solar bronzer and highlighter. If you’d like a monochromatic blushy-pink look instead of bronzed, you can choose a shade like Demure instead.
